Guess Where The US Ranks In Freedom World Wide? [CHART]

By on Friday, August 21, 2015

The United States of America used to be the bastion of freedom around the world.  People from almost every other nation wanted to come here to taste “American Freedom.”
But, sadly, the U.S. is no longer the world’s leader in freedom.  Years of creeping socialist and secular influences have taken away American freedoms piece by piece.
Now, a new survey out shows just how far America has fallen on the “Human Freedom Index.”
CNS News reports:
I’m a huge fan of the Fraser Institute’s Economic Freedom of the World.
I always share the annual rankings when they’re released and I routinely cite EFW measures when writing about individual countries.
But even a wonky economist like me realizes that there is more to life than economic liberty. So I was very excited to see that Ian Vásquez of the Cato Institute and Tanja Porčnik of the Visio Institute have put together The Human Freedom Index.
Here’s their description of the Index and some of the key findings.
“The Human Freedom Index … presents a broad measure of human freedom, understood as the absence of coercive constraint. It uses 76 distinct indicators of personal and economic freedom … The HFI covers 152 countries for 2012, the most recent year for which sufficient data is available. … The United States is ranked in 20th place. Other countries rank as follows: Germany (12), Chile (18), Japan (28), France (33), Singapore (43), South Africa (70), India (75), Brazil (82), Russia (111), China (132), Nigeria (139), Saudi Arabia (141), Venezuela (144), Zimbabwe (149), and Iran (152).”
Hong Kong and Switzerland are the top jurisdictions.

20th Place!  Hong Kong and Switzerland are the top two!
What is wrong with this picture?
America is the cradle of liberty in the world and now we are way back in the pack when it comes to our personal freedoms.
CNS News provides further details:
The United States barely cracks the top 20. We rank #12 for economic freedom but only #31 for personal freedom.
It’s worth noting that overall freedom is strongly correlated with prosperity.
“Countries in the top quartile of freedom enjoy a significantly higher per capita income ($30,006) than those in other quartiles; the per capita income in the least-free quartile is $2,615. The HFI finds a strong correlation between human freedom and democracy. Hong Kong is an outlier in this regard. The findings in the HFI suggest that freedom plays an important role in human well-being.”
This is hard to believe, but is true.  Even though economically the U.S. still ranks in the top 20, we have slipped all the way to #31 in personal freedom.  Can you say, “Obama’s ‘fundamental transformation’ of America”?
Here is the chart organized to display the top 20 nations based on personal freedom.  Please note the fact that the U.S. is not on the list since we came in at #31.
No one living in America should accept these results.  Our freedoms are far too precious to allow radical socialist Democrats,  government bureaucrats and RINO weenies to steal them from us.
As CNS News points out, only two countries made the top 10 list for both economic and personal freedom:
By the way, the only two nations in the top 10 for both economic freedom and personal freedom are Switzerland and Finland.
Everyone in the U.S. government should be ashamed at these results.  70+ years of socialism in America have all but destroyed what was best about America – Freedom.
Without freedom, America will cease to exist.

It’s time to win it back.  We The People need to take back our God-given freedoms from anyone in government who believes they have the right to rule us.
We threw off rulers who thought they were “gods” 239 years ago.  Now is not the time to allow them to come back.
America needs to be synonymous with Freedom once again, not phony “hope” and “change.”
