Sanctuary Cities – they sound like something out of a Victor Hugo novel, but sanctuary cities are real in America.  And, there are probably more of them than most people know.
The recent killing of an innocent woman in San Francisco by an illegal alien felon who was being kept from federal authorities by the city’s sanctuary policy has drawn national attention to these “safe zones” for illegals.
Now, an organization has released a map of all of the sanctuary areas in America.  IJR reports:
The murder of Kate Steinle on San Francisco’s Pier 14 has returned the spotlight on America’s sanctuary cities, where authorities don’t pursue illegal immigrants.

Francisco Sanchez, the 45-year-old suspect in Steinle’s murder, had been deported from the United States five times, and according to Fox News, he was in jail as recently as April 15 without being prosecuted.
Sanctuary cities began to appear in the 1980s as a means of sheltering immigrants who were trying to escape the violence in South America; then these safe havens began to crop up across the country.
Incredibly, there are over 200 sanctuary cities in the United States that ignore federal law when it comes to prosecuting illegal immigrants.
This is shocking for the United States.  Why any municipality should have the right to ignore federal law when it comes to felons (even felons who are illegal aliens), makes no sense in America.

The Daily Signal provides more information:
The Center for Immigration Studies has released an interactive map depicting cities, counties and states that are “sanctuaries” for immigrants who are in the country illegally.
According to the Center for Immigration Studies, “these state and local jurisdictions have policies, laws, executive orders, or regulations allowing them to avoid cooperating with federal immigration law enforcement authorities”:
[The cities] ignore federal law authorizing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to administratively deport illegal aliens without seeking criminal warrants or convictions from federal, state, or local courts. Although federal law requires the cooperation, the Department of Justice has never sued or taken any measure, including denying federal funds, against a jurisdiction.

David Inserra, a research assistant at The Heritage Foundation, said that it is a “no brainer” for local and state officials to aid federal agencies in enforcing federal laws.
“Not enforcing the law results in lawlessness,” Inserra said.
Of course, selective enforcement of the law leads to lawlessness.  This is another one of those utopian, left-wing ideals that fails miserably in the real world.  In the case of sanctuary cities, it has cost the lives of many innocent people.
A closer inspection of this map shows that the vast majority of these “safe zones” are under the jurisdiction of Democrats.
Without the current checks on his ambitions, President Obama would make all of America one big sanctuary country for anyone wanting to come here.  We are already seeing a skyrocketing illegal alien crime problem.
If Obama and his liberal Democrat cronies have their way, no place in America will be safe from foreign invaders – posing as poor workers just seeking a better life.
