awesome collection ! thx

Anonymous said...

agreed

Interesting photos. Did anyone notice that Angelina Jolie looks virtually the same since she was very young? That woman must have found the fountain of youth..

Anonymous said...

I love that you ended it all with Hitler's baby pic

Anonymous said...

Her name isn't Blondie, it's Debbie Harry; Blondie was the band. Really cool pictures though.

Anonymous said...

thought it was kind of odd to put charles mansons picture right after Sharon Tait.

Anonymous said...

hitler?! wtf?!

Anonymous said...

Some really interesting photos here, nice collection!

Anonymous said...

Put few pics of young Charlie Gibson responsible for convincing us to kill 650,000 Iraqis in the list next to Charlie Manson for convincing people to kill. Some pics of young Richard Nixon during the McCarthy hearings hunting people out to take over our government insidiously. Pictures of young Hearst responsible for turning people against the endocannabinoids that heal the brain from the every day damage that leads to Alzhiemer's and media brain washing, caused the Dust bowl of the Great Depression and then covered it up with his media system and explained all away as poor farming techniques?

Anonymous said...

that's a fabulous collection.

Anonymous said...

Great work, but the photopgraph of Marlene Dietrich does not feature Charlie Chaplin, and the picture of Marilyn and JFK is a re-enactment from an art project a couple of years ago. Otherwise, very enjoyable.

Anonymous said...

BTW That Angelina Jolie's Dad happens to be Acadamy Award winner John Voigt you might have seen him in a few "small" movies like Midnight Cowboy,Deliverance,The Champ.Cracks me up not even listed when he has done much more important roles than his daughter

Anonymous said...

sean penn's picture is not rare, that's from fast times of ridgemont high

Jason said...

This is really amazing. What an awesome, humanizing, look at so many celebs often deified. Great collection, I'm sure a lot of work went into it, thanks so much for sharing.

Wicked cool.
:)

Woah Christopher Walken was smoookin hot!

Anonymous said...

awww, even Hitler was a cute baby once.

Shoulda aborted that one, Mrs. Adolf.

Anonymous said...

this is an awesome collection of photos... thanks for putting it together!

Anonymous said...

The Monroe/JFK photo is a staged Alison Jackson photo.

Anonymous said...

Bookmarked!

Anonymous said...

Some are pretty obvious bad photoshop efforts; e.g. the fisrt one with Sean Connery (head glued onto bodybuilder-bod) or the Clooney picture, assembled from bits and pieces of his face in various stages of his life. Others aren't really rare.
Still, nice collection, thank for putting it together for us. Who would have thought Chris Walken once was a hottie, or remembered how unbelievable ugly Steven Tyler was as a young man, or the hilarious 70's fashion - check out Elton John's hair (if you want to call it that).

My favourite is probaby the one with Elvis and Sophia - two Pop Icons, instantly recognizable but in a great shot that seems almost personal: just clowning around, living the moment.

Anonymous said...

Isn't that Jimi Hendrix with Bob Marley?

Anonymous said...

Sean Connery was in fact a body builder, that one isn´t photoshopped. Don´t think the Clooney one is either, I heard him say he was a complete geek when he was younger and had glasses. Agree with the first ´Chaplin´ pic, it isn´t him. Great collection nonetheless!

Anonymous said...

Actually, Sean Connery did start out as a body builder. check out tnation.tmuscle.com

Mario said...

fantastic collection, thanks for this nice article!

Anonymous said...

the picture of sean penn is a screen shot from fast times at ridgemont high turned black and white, not a rare photo.

Anonymous said...

Normally, picture captions have the names listed from left to right, or at least in a consistent manner.

Anonymous said...

There are a lot of amazing photos on this photographer's flickr account, but this one of Jeff Buckley is truly amazing and unseen.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnnyriggsisdead/2598794861/in/set-72157605724420858/

Anonymous said...

That photo of Marilyn and JFK is staged, shot by contemporary photographer Alison Jackson, using look-alikes.

BK said...

These are fucking awesome than you so much!!

Anonymous said...

Some great, great stuff! The Lennon/Ono/Warhol one cracked me up... Andy seemed to enjoy it! lol

@5:19. The pics of Sean Connery and George Clooney are legit. Connery was a competitive body-builder and did modeling before acting and that Clooney shot has been circulating a long time. Leno even embarrassed Clooney with it years ago on The Tonight Show... So much for your eagle eye buddy. :)

Anonymous said...

I can't believe how the pictures of Angelina Jolie with her parents don't note the fact that her dad is Academy Award winning actor JON fucking VOIGHT!

Anonymous said...

That Sean Connery picture is real, actually. He was a bodybuilder in the '40s. He placed 3rd or so in I think the Mr. Universe competition in 1950.

Anonymous said...

The Sean Connery is real, he was a Mr. Universe before he started acting.

sazerac said...

What a wonderful collection of photos. I'm thinking Andy Warhol must have introduced David Bowie to Elizabeth Taylor.

Anonymous said...

Debbie Harry, not "Blondie".

Anonymous said...

Bonnie & Clyde - Jackson5 w/ Bob Marley are pretty sweeeeet, WOW Connery & Walken, and Tim Roth used to be a girl. Nice collection.

Anonymous said...

Hey Mr/Ms mean Anonymous re your - Photoshop comment about Sean Connery "His hobby of bodybuilding culminated in a bid for the 1950 Mr. Universe title where he placed third."
from his web site: http://www.seanconnery.com/biography/
Sean rocks! What a hottie.

lol great ending shot.

Anonymous said...

I'd be very surprised if that was really Jimmy Page.

I love old pictures like that. They bring us back to another epoch, and it makes me feel kind of nostalgic :)

Thank you!

great photos! I love the one of melanie griffith and don johnson. They were so cute together.I remember her when she was young like that, in "the Dead Pool" with Paul Newman.

Not to be rude, but you've spelled 'weird' incorrectly.

Anonymous said...

is that Jerry Lee Lewis with Elvis, not his dad? If not, he's a dead ringer. They were cousins, right?

Anonymous said...

Awesome collection, Thanks for sharing it! Who knew Tim Roth was such a cutie....though, I loved him anyway before I saw this pic.

Anonymous said...

it's probably jimi hendrix in the first bob marley photo.

John Campbell said...

Wow, a lot of real stuck up a-holes commenting on your list here. I think it's great. In the bob marley jackson 5 photo it is hard to make out who is who. I bet some a-hole is going to tell me i forgot to capitalize the Proper Nouns in the above sentence.

EVo said...

This is crazy awesome. thanks for sharing...i never knew so many faces!

David Ortmann said...

Just FYI... your picture of "Marlene Dietrich and Charlie Chaplin" is actually a picture of Marlene Dietrich and her husband Rudolf Seiber.

Anonymous said...

as someone mentioned, that's not elvis' dad! it's jerry lee lewis.

Anonymous said...

That's not Jimmy Page, it's Mitch Mitchell from the Jimi Hendrix Experience. It's in his own book.

Crooked said...

The photo noted as Jimmy Page is really Mitch Mitchell of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Photo can be found in "THE HENDRIX EXPERIENCE" by Mitchell and John Platt.

thats totally disrespectful and youre disgusting !

not sure how Hitler and Che Guevara qualify as celebrities. both are common mass murderers, although on different levels, millions v/s thousands. shame.

Anonymous said...

HItler and Che Guevara qualify as celebs? both mass murderers, on different levels. shame.

Anonymous said...

cute how Hunter Thompson needs to be identified but Bebe Buell, for one, does not.

Stefano said...

--it think is a horrible thing that you put a picture of hitler

well that hitler is "not a nice person" is not new...
but i think with such a post u are the one that´s disrespectful and disgusting...

Anonymous said...

Maybe woulda been nice to credit the actual photographers where possible.

Anonymous said...

The photo of the http://venndiagrams.tumblr.com/ is from the Edgewater hotel in Seattle. It's noted for visiting acts fishing right out of the windows of their rooms. Mudshark anyone?

Anonymous said...

'...both are common mass murderers'

Common mass murderers? What are those?

And with his face driving up the price on more products than most people above, Che has to qualify as a celebrity.

Anonymous said...

it's even more scary when you see that someone as vile as hitler was once a sweet looking little baby. You can see the cutest baby in the street one day and not realize it can grow up into an evil monster. creepy!

Rob said...

Great site. Thanks for sharing these pics. Bookmarked and noted!

DMC said...

The title is "Rare Photos of Famous People" not "Rare Photos of Saints and Angels Who Have Only Ever Done Good Things". Like it or not, Hitler, Manson, and Guevara are famous.

Try to hide the past at your own peril. These men may have been evil, but they must be understood so that we may recognize the signs of someone following in their footsteps.

Anonymous said...

I thought Alfred Hitchcock only had one child (daughter)?

Anonymous said...

Add me to the "that's Deborah Harry, not Blondie" chorus.

Anonymous said...

With Kurt Vonnegut on the lifeguard chair: Tom Wolfe, not Wolf.

It's so generous of Henry Miller to play ping pong with his fans!

Anonymous said...

that's a great post! thanks!

Anonymous said...

Some of them are blatantly fake, for example on the one of Goldie Hawn you can see where the Photoshop etchings on her skin have gone over the edges, and a few others are doctored really quite badly (that is NOT George Clooney), but the rest are wonderful to see.

Anonymous said...

....персоны... явления... культы... тренды... иконы yeah what he said..............

Anonymous said...

The photo of JFK and MM was a staged one using look-alikes by Alison Jackson years after the death of both.

all should come over to point out that Hitler was a mass murderer, because if you continue doing so you appear as if you just learned yesterday. Intelligence rules.

Marlene Dietrich and her hubby, Rudy Sieber, NOT Charlie Chaplin! (too tall for Charlie, plus a true Dietrich fan knows what Rudy looked like.)

Catherine Deneuve and Francois Dorleac.

Please credit iconic and VERY well-known shot of Iggy and Debbie Harry to Bob Gruen. http://www.bobgruen.com/files/iggypop/r044.html

Otherwise, nice trip down memory lane of cool peeps. Jenny Lens, jennylens.com (would let me post with this info)

i love elvis presly! I might only be ten but i love him so much that my room theme is elvis.

Anonymous said...

From Argentina, great collection...really good. I trully enjoyed it and motivetaed me to search again for history.
I do wonder why any of the mistakes where corrected, and if there was any possibility to name the photographers if possible.
On Hitler/Che Guevara discussion...please, History should be kept in our minds...if you can consider both mass killers...then add to the list George Bush father and son among other presidents from the US that during the past 60 years have been killing not only others, but their own people.
History...should be learned from as many angels as possible...Revolution always brings death, wether we addmit it, or not. US should know this...because LatinAmerica does know it.

Muito bom ver essas fotos, raridades, parabéns!!!

Contrary to previous posts, that is,in fact, Elvis and his father, Vernon Presley.

These are classic celebrities, true stars, who have inpired and lead, not like the shallow non entities in todays media society who lack sophistication and glamour and are captured in their true vulgarity!
These are some natural looking shots which capture the moment in time. True Art! True icons!

Why do some of you object to hitlers baby picture bieng included, as far as i know he had done nothing at that point. Lennon said it best"
We all have the capacity to be Mother Theresa or Adolph Hitler" Just proves that you cannot pin the personality of anyone down.

Anonymous said...

Quit criticizing and nitpicking everyone--just enjoy these rarities. I just did. That's why they're there!

Anonymous said...

I agree. quit nit-picking damn! I am sure the Author knows the name of Angelina's daddy, the author probably chose to put and her dad. I think it gives a warmer feel to the photograph.

Anonymous said...

the hitler one scared the shit out of me!

Anonymous said...

Incredible!!!! you should definitely do another one of these...or two or three!! I truly enjoyed this!!

Anonymous said...

The JFK/Monroe picture is of two celebrity impersonators.

Otherwise, very cool post.

Anonymous said...

Who scrolls all the way down here?

Anonymous said...

Why are Adolf Hitler and Che Guevara so controversial, but not Charles Manson? Or Anton LaVey? They may be evil, but they are still famous.

Alex said...

Nice collections

Cielo said...

I'm wondering why you put Charles Manson's pic right after Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate...kinda tasteless.

Hitler was so out of place it's almost funny.
